Universities and Colleges
We understand campus life
Thousands of users for an affordable price
University and college budgets are under pressure from all sides. IT infrastructure needs to be affordable, without compromising on performance, resilience, or security.
We don't have per-user licensing, so your systems can expand past the artificial limits set by many vendors.
Light accounting demands
Unlike ISPs which need to maintain and query accounting data for billing purposes, educational institutions don't typically need the accounting component of AAA systems.
Our pricing model makes sure that you don't pay for capabilities you don't use. We also make sure that your customized ecosystem design is optimized for your specific needs.
Sharp peaks in authentication traffic
Every hour on the hour, thousands of students close their laptops and re-open them in a different room. This causes periodic surges in authentication traffic which can dramatically slow down how quickly students can sign on when they reach a new classroom.
Our unique solution factors in the unique characteristics of network traffic educational institutions. We ensure that students and staff can always sign into the network without delays.
Multi-site management
Universities and colleges often have multiple buildings and campuses within a city. Network access and responsiveness needs to be the same across all locations.
Our flexible pricing model makes it affordable to maintain multiple RADIUS sites. We also use our unique templating capabilities to provide an abstraction layer, allowing system administrators to easily monitor and manage their critical systems.

Design Blueprint for Universities
University environments present challenges for RADIUS system design. Every hour, on the hour, thousands of students close their laptops, move to a different location, and open them again. This unique environment requires a unique infrastructure to support it.
Designing multi-site RADIUS systems
Some smaller colleges can use a central RADIUS service for all of their RADIUS needs. This configuration is possible when there are a small number of users, or system load is low. However, when there are a large number of users spread across a geographic region, it may be useful to use a multi-site approach.
Can you use Active Directory with FreeRADIUS?
The short answer is Yes, Active Directory is compatible with FreeRADIUS. However, there are some constraints and implications for the rest of the system.
Like any technology choice, Active Directory has advantages and disadvantages, as well as consequences for how other network components need to be set up.
